Choose the right
technology.
WordPress, Shopify, custom-built, no-code… The right choice is not the most fashionable, it is the one that serves your project without locking you in. Here is how to decide, and keep your freedom.
A means,
not an end.
Your customers will never see your site's code: they experience the outcome, not the technology. The right technical choice is the one that lets you ship fast, evolve easily and stay in control of your tool.
The real risk is not choosing the "wrong" technology, it is becoming dependent: on a tool you do not control, on a subscription you can no longer leave, or on a provider without whom nothing works anymore.
Decide
with insight.
A CMS (WordPress, Statamic…) is enough for most sites and lets you manage the content. Custom-built is justified for a particular business logic. The need decides, not the trend.
Mature technologies (Laravel, WordPress, React…) have communities, available talent and years of fixes behind them. The boring thing that works beats the fragile trend.
Webflow, Wix: fast and accessible, perfect to get started. But they have limits, costs that climb and a risk of lock-in. Know what you gain, and what you give up.
Whatever the tool, you must own your domain name, your content and, ideally, your code. What belongs to you cannot be taken away from you overnight.
The doors
that close.
No-Code
Lock-In
Some platforms make exporting impossible: leaving means rebuilding everything. Before committing, always ask how you could leave, and at what cost.
Exotic
Technologies
A rare or "in-house" technology ties you to the only person who masters it. The day they disappear, you are stuck. Prefer what others will be able to take over.
Dependence
on the Provider
Without access to your hosting, your domain and your code, you are a prisoner. A good provider makes you autonomous, they do not hold you hostage.
The Disguised
Subscription
Beware of "all-inclusive" offers at €200 or €300 per month: often, you are renting a site you do not own. A site is paid for once, it is not rented indefinitely.
You keep
the keys.
We choose the technology to fit your project, not our habits, and we deliver a site whose keys you keep: domain, hosting and access in your name. If one day you leave, you take everything with you. To learn more about owning your site, see our FAQ.
