Frequently asked questions

Your questions,
our answers.

Everything you wonder about before launching your website: the price, what truly belongs to you, how to avoid trap subscriptions, and how it actually works. No jargon.

01The basics

What is a domain name?

It is your website's address on the internet, what you type into the browser, for example mycompany.com. You register it with a registrar for a small fee each year (often €10 to €15). The key point: it must be registered in your name, not your provider's, because it is your address and your online identity.

What is web hosting, and a server?

A server is a computer that stays on permanently and connected to the internet, storing your website's files and delivering them to visitors. Hosting is renting a space on that server. Without hosting, your website exists nowhere. It is a real but modest cost (often a few euros per month), not to be confused with abusive subscriptions at €200 or €300 per month.

What is the difference between the website, the domain and the hosting?

A simple picture: the domain name is the address, the hosting is the land and the house, and the website is everything inside it. All three are distinct: you can change host while keeping your domain, or rebuild your website without changing your address. What matters is owning all three.

Do I need technical knowledge to have a website?

No. That is our job, not yours. We handle all the technical side and deliver a website you can manage easily (edit a text, a photo, a price) without touching the code. And we explain clearly what you need to know, with no jargon.

02Pricing & payment

How much does building a website cost?

It depends on the project, but to give a rough idea: a custom showcase website generally ranges between a few hundred and a few thousand euros. This is the cost of building it, a one-off expense paid in two or three instalments (a deposit at the start, then the balance on delivery), not a subscription. We always provide a clear, detailed quote before starting, with no hidden costs.

Do I pay once or every month?

Neither a monthly subscription nor a single payment: you pay the cost of building your website, a one-off expense, generally spread over two or three instalments (a deposit at the start, the balance on delivery, and sometimes an intermediate payment on larger projects). Once the balance is paid, the website is yours. The only recurring fees after that are the real costs of your domain name and hosting (a few euros per month), at their fair price and in your name. No rent for your own website.

What is included in the price?

The planning, design and development, going live, and the training to manage your content. We agree on the scope in advance and it is set down in black and white in the quote. You know exactly what you are paying, and what you are getting.

What are the recurring costs, and why?

Only two, and they are unavoidable for any website in the world: renewing the domain name (around €10 to €15 per year) and hosting (often a few euros per month). These are real costs, paid at market price and in your name. Everything else is behind you once the website is delivered.

03Abusive subscriptions

Why is my website costing me €200 or €300 per month?

Because you are probably in a long-term rental contract, not a genuine purchase. Marketed as "all-inclusive", this type of offer often ties you in for 24, 36, 48 or even 60 months. At €300 over 48 months, that is €14,400 for a website you do not even own, whereas an excellent custom website that is truly yours costs a fraction of that.

How do I know if I am trapped in a website rental contract?

A few telltale signs: a multi-year commitment that cannot be cancelled, a domain name that is not in your name, a website that shuts down if you stop paying, and often a second contract (a "financial lease") signed at the same time, sometimes with a finance company you have never met. If several of these ring true, you are probably affected.

Can my website and my domain disappear if I stop paying?

If you own neither the website, nor the hosting, nor the domain, then yes: everything can be cut off, and you can lose your address, your emails and your search ranking overnight. That is precisely what makes these contracts so constraining, and why owning your website is not a luxury but a protection.

Can I get out of this type of contract?

Often yes, but never by simply stopping your payments, which would put you in the wrong and can trigger the whole balance becoming due. These contracts are more fragile than they look, and French courts have often ruled in favour of the people trapped by them. The right approach is to consult a specialist lawyer (the first assessment is often free) and, in parallel, to rebuild a website that truly belongs to you.

This information is provided in general terms by a web developer and does not constitute legal advice. For any steps to terminate, rescind or cancel a contract, consult a lawyer.

04Ownership

Who owns my website once it is finished?

You do, entirely. The code, the design, the content: it all comes to you. If one day we stop working together, you walk away with your whole website, without asking anyone for anything.

Will the domain name really be in my name?

Yes, always. We register your domain name in your name, on your account. It is your property, your address, your identity. No one should be able to hold it hostage, least of all your provider.

What happens if we stop working together?

You keep everything: the domain, the code, the hosting, the access. We hand it all over cleanly, and you are free to continue on your own or with someone else. No locks, no dependency, no nasty surprises.

Can I recover or transfer an existing website?

In most cases, yes. If you own your domain and your content, the transfer is simple. If you are coming out of a rental contract, the situation calls for more care (and sometimes a lawyer for the legal side), but we can rebuild your online presence on sound foundations, yours this time.

05Process & timelines

How long does it take to build my website?

Generally count on two to four weeks for a showcase website, longer for a project with a shop or custom features. The timeline mostly depends on how quickly we gather your content (texts, photos). We set a clear schedule right from the start.

What do you need from me to get started?

Your information (your business, your goals, your customers) and your content: texts, photos, logo if you have one. We guide you at every step and can help with the copywriting or the visuals if needed. You do not have to prepare everything on your own.

Will I be able to edit my website myself afterwards?

Yes. We deliver a website that is simple to manage: editing a text, a photo, a price or adding a news post takes just a few clicks, without touching the code. And we train you to get the hang of it before going live.

What happens after going live?

Going live is not the end. We follow up in the days that follow to fix any detail, and we remain available afterwards if you need changes or a helping hand, with no mandatory subscription: you call on us whenever you wish.

06Visibility & technical

Will my website appear on Google?

Your website is built from the start to be understood and indexed by Google: clean structure, SEO best practices, performance and a mobile version. Ranking at the top on competitive searches takes time and content, but we lay all the foundations to give you the best chances.

Will my website be mobile-friendly?

Yes, always. More than half of visits happen from a phone, and Google bases its ranking on the mobile version. Your website displays and works perfectly on mobile, tablet and desktop, without exception.

Who handles maintenance and updates?

However you prefer. You can manage the content yourself, and for the technical side (updates, backups, security) we offer on-demand support, with no commitment. You are never forced into a subscription to keep your website alive.

Will my website be GDPR-compliant?

Yes. We build your website in line with GDPR: cookie management, compliant forms, legal notice and privacy policy. Your data and your visitors' data are handled correctly, right from the start.
